My name is Sarah and I am the new intern here at Ostlie’s Sunnyside Acres. I am interested in the microbrewery scene so when I saw the Ostlies grew hops just 2 hours from my home town of Fargo, I knew I wanted to get involved. I’ve only been here a couple days but I have already learned so much. I quickly learned that the Ostlies are one of the most welcoming and kind families I have ever met. I was a little nervous to jump into things, but Lindsay showed me around and has been helping me understand all of the farm duties. I’m lucky she’s patient ;)
I have been helping fix the high tunnel, learning about tilling and irrigation in there too. I have been perfecting my weeding skills in their potato and gourmet garlic plot. Lindsay and I also got to spend some time canning, something I was really excited to learn more about. What has been most exciting for me though has been working on the hops. I got to plant some hops and helping to plan a Hop Field Day here at the farm. The field day is going to be in August and I can’t wait to meet with other “hop heads”.
Even though I have only been here a few days, I can see that this is going to be a great adventure for me. I will embrace every hot day, every storm, and all the dozens of itchy mosquito bites because the fun I am having learning and getting to know the Ostlies definitely outweighs those.
